When I first saw level 8 I was uneasy about what towers I wanted to put down because I had no idea what those huge purple carnivorous looking plants were going to do. So I started out by placing a bunch of arrow towers. Glad I did because those plants actually helped me because every wave they will eat one of the enemies that run by them. *Keep note that you can only place reinforcements by one of these plants after they have eaten an enemy from that wave. If you do it before then these plants will eat your reinforcements.
Here are the screenshots for how I handled level 8 but I advise you to try to do it differently by staggering your Tribal Axe Throwers with your Crossbow Forts and the Archmage Tower. Reason is if you do this your towers will share their abilities and do a lot more damage then the way I did it.
UPDATE: I decided to not be lazy and replayed level 8 to give you guys a clearer strategy of what I typed above. It is a million times better than the one in the screenshots because those archmage towers have a special ability that has a tornado that keeps pushing the enemies back, it’s awesome.
Level 7 in Kingdom Rush Frontiers is where I kept getting my butt kicked. I couldn’t figure out how those tiki guys kept plowing through my soldiers like they were nothing and the problem was is that I didn’t read the new enemy abilities on that guy when he started to come out. He is a Cannibal so if you put any soldiers on the left side of the map then you are just giving them food to restore their HP and increase their map HP so they are pretty much unstoppable. You need to line the road on the right side of the map with your soldiers to hold off all the spiders but only use Arrow, Magic and/or Artillery Towers on the left side like so:
Then you get a surprise attack from a new enemy called the Witch Doctor that comes in from the left side. You need to keep this guy from grouping up with the Cannibals because if he does he will continually heal them. So Every time he appears use your Reinforcement units to hold him off from the group and in an area to where your towers can attack him to kill him.
Now if I could have done this level differently I probably would have staggered my Magic and Arrow towers all along the left side and had 1 or 2 artillery towers mixed in there to slow them down but it was kind of tough because the beginning waves there are a lot of monsters that flood you.
Finally just completed the sequel to Kingdom Rush which is Kingdom Rush Frontiers and I’m pretty sure all of you know by now is the best tower defense game series ever made(in my opinion) so props to Iron Hide Games and Armor Games, however I happened to play the game here and althoguh this is a tower defense game and it’s all about gameplay it does have a storyline to it that is not pushed too much so if you want to stay in line with that then I suggest you start by playing the original Kingdom Rush here.
First off the biggest tip I can give you is on your tower upgrades the best thing to put your points into is your arrow towers and your Reinforcements. Pretty much the entire game all I did was put my point into these two categories and near the end of the game I put the remainder into artillery towers because I started using them so much because they got an awesome new upgrade for the tower itself.
Now when I first started playing the game I had all intentions of just playing the game and enjoying it for myself and not making a walkthrough or a guide for it. But when I got to level 7 based on my own ignorance of not being able to figure the level out until 3 attempts I decided well might as well start cataloging and telling some of my strategies for levels to help some others. There also tends to be a bunch of surprise attacks in the Kingdom Rush Frontiers level which I definitely love but it can definitely throw off the foundation of strategy if you do not see it coming. So if you are having trouble with the strategy of a level or just do not like surprises (or can’t see where they are going to come from) then need not go any further I’m going to help you out. First I’m going to post a bunch of screenshots to some levels prior to level 7. That was at the point in which I was just grabbing them because I thought I might post them and maybe not. After all these screenshots I will start posting some more in-depth strategies on some levels and on others I will just let you know the ideal tower placements. I’ll break these up into post specific by level though so you don’t get a lot of info you don’t want to read.
Level 1:
Level 2:
Level 3:
Level 4:
Level 5 with a surprise attack from the new enemy the Executioner:
Level 6 with Genie Boss – He is pretty easy to take down just throw everything you got at him and hold him off with your Reinforcement units:
The Genie appears! – you knew something was coming when you say that gate.
All other walkthroughs/screenshots and info from level 7+ will be in another post and will start to be more in depth and with more screenshots. Here is the walkthrough for level 7.
Jake gets kidnapped by an Underworld Sorcerer and Finn is going to save him. With the help of Princess Bubblegum’s science of alchemy they will definitely make an awesome team. This is kind of a walkthrough for the game I guess.
The only elements at play here are fire and ice. So you can make ice shields and swords and fire shields and swords. I have a ton of screenshots below of some of the items you can get in the game and some of the monsters you will face.
The only thing I don’t like is that you cannot switch out swords and shield during the fight.
Tips: When you get a new item like a sword or a shield or whatever make sure you remember what level it came from! You can go back to that same level and play it over and over again to get the same item. So say you wanted to make a fire skull shield and an ice skull shield then just go to the level where you get the skull shield and beat it twice to get 2 skull shields.
Also if you are wondering what levels have what items then do not worry! Because whenever you beat a level that you had not beaten before and that level has an item to give then the game is always going to give you a new weapon or shield if it has not given it to you. So just play the game until you get a new item. If you want that item again then keep replaying and beating that same level.
You like hording items, but struggle with the 12 slots of inventory space? Then don’t… be smart and use the mix window to hold onto some of your items. See image below and always remember to combine images that are the same to enhance their attributes and mix potions of the same color together until they are maxed out. You can also mix fire and fire to reinforce it same goes for the ice:
SPOILER!!!
Finn & Bones the end of the game. Just for those people that want to know how it ends but don’t want to play through the game:
Those that have stopped and thought they can more successfully manage the government of the city, state, or country they live in will find a gem in GoodGame Empire as it allows one to do just that. Well, more correctly you create your own town and empire, but it is the same principle. The game drops you into the middle of a castle swamped and expansive map and after some instructions lets you lose to see just how well you can stick to that claim.
Medieval strategy fans step up and put on your gauntlets and best feudal overlord game face. You begin as a lowly knight under the service of a castle and after winning a quick battle (which will be explained to you step-by-step, this game certainly has an extensive tutorial for those that prefer it) you will be awarded an estate of your own to develop, defend and otherwise expand financially and militarily. This is a game that falls into a few different categories: strategy, time management, and the genre of economics. This last is extensively used but hardly ever named as such, usually it falls under the umbrella category of strategy and is ignored as an element of its own. But as the player will quickly learn GoodGame Empire is a game of construction and like any construction project it requires resources and money.
Don’t be frightened off by the term. Economics may bring to mind dusty old men in dark suits smoking cigarettes over a stack of papers crammed with mathematical equations dense enough to cause sudden seizures in the average person but in the simple practice of the game world it is actually an addictive component that makes the whole process worthwhile. You’ll need to expand your real estate (by constructing walls), build room to live, collect taxes, cut stone, farm and keep a good balance between offensive and defensive forces. With the additional element of plunder after you send out those troops to break and loot the other castles (who conveniently are mostly robber barons and others that deserve it) this makes modern politics look more stiff, boring and useless than they already are.
A real in depth overview of the gameplay of GoodGame Empire would be superfluous as the tutorial does a good job of starting the player out with baby steps before letting you walk on your own. What you really need to know before beginning is that this is one of those superior flash games that only comes around once in a great while. The graphics are of great quality and the level of complexity, the amount of upgrades and variety of missions are enough to keep you enthralled again and again.
So I want to talk about compound defense for The Last Stand: Dead Zone. I have seen so many players from viewing their compounds have all their storages outside of their compound.. why? Would you keep your flat screen TV outside or leave your wallet on top of your car? You should keep your storages (the one that have resources in them) inside your compound to where your survivors can protect them.
Just think if a player were to attack your compound because they are in need of resources and all of your resources are outside like in this photo:
Wouldn’t that just be an easy snatch and grab?
Well you do not want that to happen to you so you need to put all of your storages (food, water, wood, metal, cloth) inside your facility to where you can properly protect them. For example in the below video it is a zombie raid. Just imagine for a second if it were a player raid on my compound. Then my survivors would slaughter any player that tries to get close to my facility and take the bulk of my resources.
Now the other part of it is you might notice that my water and food collection structures are all outside (where they have to be) and on one side of the facility. Why do I not have survivors protecting those? My question back is why take the risk of my survivors dying to protect just a little bit of resources? Place all your manpower at the center of your facility and utilize the rally flags so you make sure that every attack your survivors are assigned to certain positions and they will always be there when an attack takes place. Try to keep your recon survivors in a range to where they can protect your other survivors from the players recons survivors that are trying to snipe them(I will explain this whole strategy in a future post called Player Attack Strategies). Because when you have some Recon survivors equipped with Hunter Compact long rifles they have so much range they will start shooting at anything that tries to get in first. For defense of your facility you should equip your recons and all other survivors with quick reload gear like you would in missions. This is definitely the optimal choice to have if you are away from your computer and a player attacks your compound and the AI has to fight your battle.
UPDATE– I saw this defense layout while I was searching compounds to attack and found it to be very very good. He is pretty much protecting everything he has the way it is all setup and makes it incredibly hard for a player to gather resources especially if he has some recons with some good ranged rifles (like the Hunter Compact) anyways take a look at what I mean:
What happens if your compound is attacked while your on a mission?
Well it gets attacked obviously and your survivors get injured (if they are there and attacked) your resources get taken and you have to build them up again. You also get this nifty little attack report:
My final post of The Last Stand: Dead Zone (maybe.. maybe not) is going to be about player attack strategies. I went through so many battles very disappointed because I would find so many compounds that were unprotected. So I would just have free reign over getting all of their resources from their storages.
Other times I would show up to compounds and only a few survivors would be left there.. ya know just the few left over that you can’t take out on a mission or a raid. When a person like myself and you really wants to raid and attack other players that is disappointing. One of my complaints about Dead Zone is that I cannot pick the area I am in. The place I am in only has a level 13, level 17, level 18 and a level 24. All the rest are low levels. Now it is pretty pointless to attack a level 13 because they are not going to give me many resources but I attacked them anyways. Every time I attacked the level 17 he never had any survivors in the compound! They were always out on missions. So when I made my video on player attack strategies for the Last Stand: Dead Zone it was against a level 18 and I am currently a level 15 with a team of 2 level 13’s and 2 level 12’s and it worked out nicely. I went there to kill! I have the full strategy and videos at my other blog for real time strategy games check it out here: The Last Stand: Dead Zone – Player Attack Strategy
Alright now lets talk about the classes in dead zone beta. Which ones are worth it what order you should probably get them in and their usefulness.
First off lets talk about the first class you get. The classes that follow after will be in the order that I suggest you assign new survivors with.
Leader Class
The leader is the most diverse role there is as they can pretty much handle it all and they start out with very well rounded stats so they can do anything and everything efficiently.
Leaders Weapon choices: You can choose any weapon you want for the leader because they specialize in all of them. Just because it says on the weapon stat sheet that they don’t it does not mean that they don’t utilize that weapon lesser than another class.
Suggestive stat upgrades for the leader: I like to put points in fighter because soon enough you are going to be fighting other players and raiding their compounds and you need the health boost and shooting boost and all that stuff. I might throw a few points in recon for the extra movement speed if the leader gets a little sluggish but it has not happened yet so I’m still putting everything in fighter.
Scavenger
The class is an absolute necessity as your second role choice for 2 reasons:
1. You need help cleaning up those piles in your compound and getting them resources and more free fuel.
2. During missions this class is perfect for scavenging and picking up all the loot while you use your other classes to keep the area clear. When I got on missions my scavenger searches all of the piles and can easily clear an entire mission before the time runs out.
Recon
First off the picture is wrong. This class specializes in long range weapons (The game is in beta so things change quickly)
This class is just plain badass and fun to use. They have so much range with their rifles that can do way more DPS (that’s “damage per second” for you new MMORPG players) than any other class, that is not their only pro they can also move quick as hell. So you can literally race these guys around missions and they will literally keep safe zones around you and your scavenger and leader. Only down side is low health if for some reason you get swarmed by the zombies. Recon class is very effective in raid missions of other players compounds because you can practically sniper the other players survivors from a ranged position and kite(kiting is when you basically run away from any enemy and they can not catch you because of your fast movement speed king of like flying a kite) them around the screen.
If doing missions are your bread and bread and your absolute priority then I suggest assigning your fourth survivor (#1 leader #2 scavenger #3 recon #4 recon) as a recon role because they will make your missions run smooth.
If you want to build up your compound then your next class for the fourth survivor should be..
Engineer
These guys are efficient with improvised weapons. Anything that is old or thrown together just give it to an engineer they will figure out how to get it to work. Engineer class I am also sure will aid greatly in the crafting past of dead zone once that is implemented. They have high health and make for a good defense for your compound.
Medic
Th medic class will help with healing injured survivors and add to the overall comfort rating of the compound. They are also useful on missions if you have a bunch of recon survivors because in the case that your team gets swarmed they will heal them and make sure they do not die, but I have never ran into this issue. Defense against a player raid on your compound the medic will be invaluable as they will heal your survivors while your picking away the health each others team.
Fighter
These guy are just brutes, lots of health and slow as crap. I have yet to see the usefulness is having one at all they specialize in melee weapons and ranged combat but I do not see how they do ranged combat better than your leader class or the recon class. They slow movement speed absolutely kills it for me.
In defense against a player raid I do not see how they would be very effective either because if you equip them with a melee weapon they will just run after the players team and get slaughtered by the group. Like luring a fish to its death.
Well that is pretty much all the classes of dead zone in a nutshell. Seeing as how I wanted to use all of them to see how they work I have a compound with all of them but if I were to suggest the classes you should choose right when you are starting out then it would go like this:
Leader
Scavenger
Recon
Recon
Engineer
Medic
Once you get those then you can fill in where you think your team lacks based off your own experience and your own unique playing style. I like to go on missions and raid as much as possible so this is my dream team in the dead zone.
Also make sure to check out my The Last Stand: Dead Zone Walkthrough and Game Guide I’m constantly updating it based off new experiences so you are sure to learn from my mistakes and it is packed full of a bunch of nice little tips for missions, building your compound, getting free fuel and etc.
Alright while I got my survivors cleaning up a pile for an hour and half I’m going to attempt to write a walkthrough that will be very useful for newcomers to The Last Stand: Dead Zone on facebook based off what I learned and the mistakes I made since I started this awesomely addicting game. UPDATE- Looking for games like The Last Stand: Dead Zone that are not on facebook? These are single player – Try these out one is the prequel by conartistgames: The Last Stand: Union City – Freely roam the city and scavenge with your party members in a side scrolling view. Rebuild 2 – For the whole compound management and survivor strategy experience and still with zombies.
Make sure you check out all the other Dead zone guides: The Last Stand: Dead Zone – Compound Defense The Last Stand: Dead Zone – Player Attack Strategies The Last Stand: Dead Zone – Classes “Dude why is the angle of your screenshot weird?” In the bottom right hand corner you see those arrows next to the zoom in and zoom out buttons (+ and -) That will left you flip the angle so you can see on the other side of your compound. Looks like a refresh button so alot of people end up just avoiding pressing it at all.
The game will definitely show you a few things here and there but soon enough if you are like me you will want to ignorantly skip through all the information and dive into the game for yourself and figure it out by yourself with a hands on approach.
The Last Stand: Dead Zone Noobie Tips
Dont remove the junk piles! Just stop! You do not know how valuable those resources are until you are an idiot like me and mine all 10 of those 30 second piles just because you can. If you do not have the storage to save the material then leave it on the ground!
First piece of advice I can give you is do not use your fuel! Save this fuel for weapons and gear for later levels you will thank yourself later.
All my character upgrade points went into fighting. In later levels(and on missions now) when fighting against people this is all you will be doing so why not make your leader a strong fighter.
Build your workbench, because you have to before you can build anything else.
Another nice tip is time is money and anything under 5 minutes you can speed up for free! There is no limit to this either so if you build a hundred things at once and they all have 5 minutes left them you can speed through that last five minutes on all your projects.
How to get more survivors? Just press the Compound Progress Report button that is blue with the person icon and the plus button it will show you everything you need to level up in order to bring a new survivor to your compound:
Do not upgrade anything! (at first) See the screenshot below? Well those numbers represent how many of those things you can build and have in your compound at once. Max them out before you upgrade anything. Reason being is at the lower levels the resources to build level one storage and productions facilities is cheap. When you have 3 of each its like having an upgraded one cheaper.
Do not trip out about your food supply. I didn’t feed my survivor for 3 days and she survived. But do hit the little yellow construction helmet and goto the production tab and build your food gardens and water gardens as soon as you are able. Shortly after building them then you need to build your food storage and water storage because you will be stocking up sooner than you know it.
Build one bed do not build a second one until you are ready to take on another survivor. At the top of the screen that blue bar may be full and telling you that you are ready to take on a new survivor but only do it when you are ready. Survivors help a ton but they also eat up your food resources so make sure you are ready for them so you are not starving yourself.
Once you start getting bored and your morale is good, your leader is fed and the storages are stocked build a bed so you can take on a new survivor.
My first survivor
Eric Richardson came to my compound and I knew exactly what to do with him and what job to assign to him: Scavenger. I needed a survivor to help cut down the time of sorting through all the junk piles. Little did I know once I really got into the game how smart of a decision this was. I ended up giving him my leaders Lawson .22 pistol (he happens to be specialized with this weapon) and I bought a Tauron 9mm from the Fuel weapons shop for the leader. Only 25 fuel made sense to me and has worked very well so far(UPDATE-3-25-12-Yeah if I could do this all over I would not buy any weapons with the fuel I would just scavenge for them. Save your fuel for something really good later on).
So I would just scavenge and build and stock up and wait for zombie attacks because those were definitely the most fun I was having. One bright day I decided to start checking out all of the little options and clicked the city map. That is when this game completely changed for me and made me realize it was alot more than just surviving random zombie attacks and building a cool compound. The Last Stand: Dead Zone is Mob Wars on crack on steroids on Monster Import energy drinks! Yeah in the past I played mafia wars and mob wars and got bored of them quickly because everything was automated. Dead Zone lets you take those missions but lets you handle the battle yourself. Anyways what you have to do once your on the map screen. (the white block with the bright green dot was someones face, I colored over it for their own privacy)
Click around and look for facilities to go into and look for food, water and junk. They will have icons on the bottom to show you what the places have inside them so you will know what you are going for. (If you need quick resources like cloth, wood, metal goto the resources icon on the left side its the hammer and it will show you all the places you need to hit up) What you need to look for is Level 1 low threat places to go into and get some stuff. Start with the convenient store it is easy as pie. Just move your mouse around and look for shelves, bodies, boxes and everything to scavenge through. The red out areas on my screen means I have scavenged there and cannot do it for another 24 hours. My second survivor
UPDATE- 3-23-12 – If I could do this all over my second survivor would have been a recon role. They are awesome with rifles and assault weapons(SMG and SEMI automatics) and have excellent range.
Alejandro Morales was my second survivor to come to the compound and I made him an engineer. Once because he can speed up the building process of things but also he is very good with melee weapons and he can take a hit and is not that slow. Makes him good choice in my opinion for scavenging parties and compound growth. The Perfect scavenging team (at low levels)
I found that with my leader and my scavenger both with firearms and my engineer with a crowbar this made a nicely balanced little party for going through all these areas. First I would let my scavenger go through everything seeing as out of everyone he did it the quickest and I let my leader and Alejandro Morales the engineer beat the zombies down with a crowbar. You remember that red on the noise on the Tauron 9mm that I gave my leader? It is perfect because that lets your leader draw all the attention of the zombies while your scavenger is digging through things and brings the zombies right to you and Mr Louisville slugger to pond them down while your reloading. UPDATE– My engineer now has an improvised SMG and this is a zombie slaughtering team!
It is nice to just fly through the missions with Eric picking up all the crap quickly and my leader and Alejandro slaughtering anything that comes within the vicinity. The Last Stand: Dead Zone Hotkeys: for Survivors
I had to search to find out that YES you can use hotkeys for your survivors and they are the 1,2,3,4,5,6 keys. Why are they not working? Well if you like to play in fullscreen they will not work because of some limitation with the flash player. But if you play in the regular size then you will be able to hotkey away and making your missions alot easier rather than all that annoying click click click. The Death Mobile
That hunk of junk black car actually runs and you can use it! Seeing as how so many of these locations are only 5 minutes away and you remember the speed up tip from earlier? (Hit the Speed UP button under the return survivors area) Well you can quickly bring your entire crew back as soon as you are done with your mission and just as quickly go out for another scavenger hunt! Compound defense strategies
Seeing as barricades are useless at the moment and zombies can just walk around them there are a few different strategies to try and repel the zombies while you pop off some rounds into their heads.
Some of these are ones I have found in the game and some are posted by other people and I just grabbed them.
This guy states this will keep the zombies moving around while you continue to pop off rounds and says if you have 3 Death Adder revolvers then the zombies will not even get close to you.
This is the pacman barricade strategy where you just keep the zombies running through there like a tower defense game kind of strategy when guiding creeps through your battlefield.
This one does not serve alot of defense purposes in my opinion at all but it sure does have a nice presentation. I found it in the game while checking out others compounds. Injured Survivors – Injuries bug on moral
Currently there seems to be a bug where you will see remnants of past injuries affecting a specific survivors moral (Injures -2). Whether it happened with a looting crash(missions crashed and survivors sent home injured) or whatever they never go away! So this is officially a bug right now and is suppose to be fixed in a new build be patient. So just ignore it and go on about your game until it is fixed there is nothing you can do about it. The Last Stand: Dead Zone – How to get more free fuel
For one fuel is scarce because the developer wants to make some money for all of his hard work. I’ll Update this when I find better cheats for getting fuel. But there are ways to get a little bit a fuel here and there (the item is called: Jerrycan of Fuel) when you scavenge on missions. Also in piles around your compound. So when you leave the compound to go on missions click the weapon icon because fuel can almost always be found in the street missions near abandoned humvees hidden behind storage pods. As you can see in the screenshot they are circles by the big red circles that you cannot miss. In that particular mission there were 3 different fuel scavenge locations.
Now you can find fuel is missions anywhere especially in warehouse missions and the item will be called the “Jerrycan of Fuel” and it gives +5 fuel I found 2 of these in one warehouse mission.
For the time being this is all I have for you right now. I will update this guide with more as I go along but this should help you get a good outline of what you should do when you are first starting out. If you are bored and at work or school and cant get on facebook and your just so addicted to the game that you reading stuff about it online because your a wacko like me that took the time to write a review for it then kill some time trying out some other zombie games and strategy games while you wait to get home and get back to the awesomeness. Post Apocalyptic TV Shows
If you like the game and the theme you will definitely like these shows so I felt like I would recommend them. The Walking Dead – A TV series of life after most of the worlds inhabitants have been either eaten or turned into zombies. The main character is a sheriff that goes on a search to find his family and finds himself in a city wall to wall with zombies. I would give you more info on the show but I’m not going to spoil anything. Catch it on netflix for the first 2 seasons for free.
Discovery channel – The Colony where they put people in this exact situation (aside from the zombies of course) but people building their own colonies with water collection and purification centers and storage facilities for water and food. There are engineers, scavengers, geologists and convicts. All walks of life thrown together to help each other survive and fight against other scavengers and their rogue colonies that try and attack their compound.
Then there is Jericho – It is on netflix for free! This is a TV series about the US being bombed by nukes it is pretty addicting with a character that is the black sheep of the family but ends up being everyone hero when he makes a pit stop in his old hometown. You will fall in love with the characters see a few of them die and watch them carry out some things you have screaming at them to do for awhile, watch it and you will see what I mean.
So, being the avid fan of flash games that I am, I decided to take some time to play this Earn to Die. It’s a fun little game that reminds me a bit of Zombie Driver, but only in that you are nothing but a car in a post-apocalyptic wasteland. It’s is simple and fun to play. The only controls are using the left/right arrows keys to tilt back/forth, up to accelerate, and down to break- as well as control to enable boost when you unlock it.
Each “day,” you drive through a course trying to get to a helicopter that will take you to safety. In your way is a long stretch of desert, boxes, and of course, zombies. You get as far as you can before you run out of fuel, get stopped on an obstacle, or manage to flip your car upside down (not any easy feat). Depending on how far you get and how awesomely you run over zombies, you get money. You buy better equipment and cars, and then run through the course again. Earn to Die offers 3 different cars to use, and I must say the Trailer Truck is a blast to murder zombies with. There are a number of upgrades, including additional fuel, a front mounted gun, and engine and tire boosts.
Winning the game is relatively straightforward- eventually you’ll get all the upgrades and getting to the helicopter becomes not all that difficult. However, if you want to do it with as few days taken up as possible, there are a couple of things you can do. Just holding the acceleration button down won’t get you very far- you have to plan it out, letting gravity from download slopes help you and use tilting and the breaks to reduce airtime as much as possible lets you go further and get more money each day. The game is really worth playing until you get the big truck, as it’s a lot of fun, and since upgrades don’t transfer from vehicle you don’t need to buy all of them. I generally found that the gun, while cool, is relatively useless, and that definitely the first thing you want to buy is fuel. Earn to Die is really fun to play through and has a great simplicity to the gameplay.
